About the Piece:
When I begin to envision a new piece, I first imagine its sound and overall texture before attempting to search for sounds. From this approach, the ideas of "fragments," "echoes," and "whispers" emerged as a framework for the piece. Musically, the perfect fifth plays a central role. The piece unfolds gradually as a variation on the opening series of double stops, 3rds and 5ths. Beyond the obvious—the violin is tuned in fifth—the interval embodies both stability and comfort while also evoking a sense of hollowness, uncertainty, and other worldliness.
